چکیده

Recent research demonstrated that gas leaking fromunderground can be identified by observing increased stress in overlying vegetation using spectral imaging. This has been accomplishedwith both visible/near-infrared (Vis/NIR) sunlight reflection and long-wave infrared (LWIR) thermal emission. During a 4-week period in summer 2011, a controlled release experiment was conducted in Bozeman, Montana, as part of a study of methods for monitoring carbon sequestration facilities. As part of this experiment, reflective and emissive imagers were deployed together to enable a comparison of these two types of imaging systems for vegetation-based leak detection. A linear regression was performed using time as the response variable with red and NIR reflectances, Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), and LWIR brightness temperature as predictors. The regression study showed that the reflectance andLWIRbrightness temperature data together explained the most variability in the data (96%), equal to the performance of the Vis/NIR reflectance data alone, followed by NDVIalone (90%), andLWIRdata alone (44%). Therefore, the two types of imagers contributed in a synergistic fashion, while either method alone was capable of gas detection with increased statistical variability.

Long-wave infrared imaging of vegetation for detecting leaking CO2 gas

The commercial development of uncooled-microbolometer, long-wave infrared (LWIR) imagers, combined with advanced radiometric calibration methods developed at Montana State University, has led to new uses of thermal imagery in remote sensing applications. One specific novel use of these calibrated imagers is imaging of vegetation for CO2 gas leak detection. During a four-week period in the summe...

Low-cost multispectral vegetation imaging system for detecting leaking CO₂ gas.

As a component of a multisensor approach to monitoring carbon sequestration sites for possible leaks of the CO₂ gas from underground reservoirs, a low-cost multispectral imaging system has been developed for indirect detection of gas leaks through observations of the resulting stress in overlying vegetation. The imager employs front-end optics designed to provide a full 50° field of view with a...

Improving 3-D Imaging Breast Cancer Diagnosis Systems Using a New Method for Placement of Near-Infrared Sources and Detectors

The objective of this research was to improve 3-D imaging system by near-infrared light emission in breast tissue to achieve a more accurate diagnosis of tumor. The results of repeated experiments in this research have shown that with this imaging system, a more accurate diagnosis of abnormal area depends on the location of the sources and detectors. Therefore, an optimal location model has bee...

Quantitative Comparison of Analytical solution and Finite Element Method for investigation of Near-Infrared Light Propagation in Brain Tissue Model

Introduction: Functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS) is an imaging method in which light source and detector are installed on the head; consequently, re-emission of light from human skin contains information about cerebral hemodynamic alteration. The spatial probability distribution profile of photons penetrating tissue at a source spot, scattering into the tissue, and being released at ...

Huanglongbing (Citrus Greening) Detection Using Visible, Near Infrared and Thermal Imaging Techniques

This study demonstrates the applicability of visible-near infrared and thermal imaging for detection of Huanglongbing (HLB) disease in citrus trees. Visible-near infrared (440-900 nm) and thermal infrared spectral reflectance data were collected from individual healthy and HLB-infected trees. Data analysis revealed that the average reflectance values of the healthy trees in the visible region w...
